I was reading a brilliant article the other day on the Jung Katz blog entitled 25 Things You Should Never Say To An Artist (parts 1 & 2) and boy did it resonate! Such things as "That's a hobby, not a job", "I guess anyone can call themselves an artist", "You should get an actual job" and "People buy that?"
I have had derivatives of these comments said to me at one time or another. Other good ones which particularly stung are "My 8 year old can paint better than that". OH REALLY???? and when I was once standing at a fair behind my stall, someone walked by and very loudly said "Well, I suppose some would call it art." CHEERS!
Why do people have to do this? Do they have to be so mean? My collectors love my art. I have many repeat buyers and I'm not playing, or messing about. I am serious about what I do. Oh well, I suppose you can't please all of the people .... and all that. But back to the article, a great read, which I am sure most artists can relate to.
Anyway, I have been working on insects this week. I haven't done much animal art recently, so I thought I would take a break from people and see what I could come up with. These two little guys are the result. Both 8 x 10 inches, and available on my website www.bearoberts.co.uk. They're cheery little fellows in acrylic, drawing pens and collage. Hope you like them.
